Day 33 | Planning for a long run


My goal for this calendar year is to run a half marathon.   I had planned on running it in October but I now have a wedding to go to that weekend so I have to find a new race.

This one looks quite appealing:   http://www.reggaemarathon.com/ – It’s in Jamaica on Negril Beach at the beginning of December.   Tickets to Jamaica are pretty cheap….

But most likely, I’ll try to find another one close to home.

Once I find a race, I’ll need to figure out based on the date when I will need to start training for that race specifically.

The best site for running training schedules is http://www.halhigdon.com.  I will be using the half-marathon schedule for novices.   It says I need 12 weeks for training.   I don’t think there’s a potential half that I want to run before June so I don’t have to kick off my formal training just yet.

I went for a two mile run today at lunch on a treadmill.  I ran faster than I ever have, which for most people is not fast.  But for me, it was.  I did two 11-1/2 minute miles.  A personal best for me.  Usually I can run one decent mile and then I slow down.   I’ve never been able to run two decent miles before.  This is so cool.  I am improving.  I am getting faster and stronger.  And it’s only been a month!
