I think it’s pretty easy to use the excuse of not having time to work out. I certainly have used it myself. That is, until I decided that I was going to lose weight. Until I actually made the commitment, I didn’t have time to work out often. But, somehow, almost magically, once I went all in, I have found the time.
I work full time and have two children. I am very busy. But this is important to me, so I fit it in. It is a priority.
Running is the easiest to fit in.
Today for example, I ran on my lunch hour. I changed into my running clothes (those awesome new winter clothes I mentioned here) and stepped out on to the street and ran. I did a 5K (3.1 miles) around the area, and it was fantastic. It was in the high 30s and not too windy. The sidewalks were clear of snow. And it was cold enough out so I didn’t sweat much. I went back to the office and changed back into my clothes. All in less than an hour. I ate my lunch at my desk. No big deal.
I am now working out six days a week. My gym has a daycare so I do strength training on Monday and Wednesday evenings while the kids play. Tuesdays and Thursdays I run at lunch time outside, on Saturdays I run in the mornings (at the gym with the kids in the gym daycare) and on Sundays I usually ice skate in the afternoon with my kids. Friday = rest day. It’s not hard to find the time. It just has to be a priority.
